The Powhatan behaved badly towards the English colonists and the reason was the suspicious behavior of the English settlers. The English settlers were friendly towards them but they never hesitated to use their guns or swords to make Indians behave in a proper manner. The English destroyed the villages of Powhatan when they refused to give corn to the English. Therefore, the Powhatan retaliated through violence. However, there were few Powhatan who believed the English would be beneficial allies given their power as this would help them to dominate other tribes in the region.
